When the University of Missouri - Rolla asked me if I could shorten an Impulse9 down to 12″ from 13.7″ so it could be put into an EV1 they had, I said sure (even though the most I’ve EVer shaved down was an inch, lol! What I didn’t know, or misunderstood is it also needed an OEM shaft installed… Doh!
It wouldn’t have been so bad if I hadn’t had to hack and slash the thing from it’s OEM length as we could have just used some existing shaft measurement’s, but we had to make sure the armature was going to sit where it needed to be and fit! Eric at Mountain Machine came through for me and made a shaft that pressed into the armature like a gloove 8^)
They received the motor today and hopefully there will be another EV1 cruisin around after winter break. Maybe one day it’ll make it to Battery Beach Burnout, or The Power of DC events for some autocross or range runs 8^) For me personally I thougt it a cool project as I got to play a part in helping an EV1 run again and for an old DC motor dog it just don’t get much better than this (except for projects like the post before this one, hehe). Anyway, here it is, EV1 album
