Orange Crush and USU updates

I got the news yesterday that Orange Crush being driven by Matt Graham ran a 14.04 sec. 1/8th mile at 45 MPH during the Battery Beach Burnout last Friday.  The current record is 13.706 at 41.66 held by Thunderstruck (hey guys) according to the nedra page .  Being the bike got only one run in it shouldn’t take Shawn and Matt to long before they have it run a record class run. I actually left the coils in sereis with this motor for that off the line torque but it seems to have more top end speed.  Anyways for those not on the EVDL I was a nervous wreck as I waited for the info on how Mighty had performed and also how everone had done.  It sounds as if everyone had a great time even though there were a few breakdowns throughout the evening.  Although I’m new to the race thing I know that stuff breaks.  In fact Mighty had an issue shipping back and had both terminals snapped off.  Matt and Shawn had to install thinner nuts just to get the cables attached.  The motor for some reason had lost contact between the comm and the brushes and the motor didn’t even run and Shawn had to do some fiddling with it before he rev’ed to life again.  Again it was great to hear that he did as I hoped he would do.

I got an e-mails from USU on the snowmobile motor.  Although it was a bit hazy it hinted that things went very well.  That was sideswiped with an e-mail the next day that again hinted that maybe the first e-mail was premature, lol.  They are going to run it with a series parallel shift and see how that works.  They stated that series had more take off but may have drawn more amps at high end rpm’s.  Anyway that was a bit of a bummer to hear.  I’m still unsure to anything concrete and look forward to their data as it will help me to advance my ability to address the needs and issues facing EV’ers.  I’ll end with a quote from Get Smart… Missed it by that() much, hehehehe.  For you young people thats an old TV show, God I’m getting old 8^)
